Clones vs. Seeds

February 6, 2018 by fifthseason 9 Comments

-Luis Guerra- In the long debate over clones vs seeds, I’ll help shed a bit of light and help you figure out which technique to use in your next grow. Clone / Cuttings First off, you will need a mother plant to produce clones. Wikipedia defines clones as any organism whose genetic information is identical to that of a parent organism from which it was created. A mother plant can come from a seed source, be purchased from a nursery, or taken from your current garden. Usually a … [Read more...] about Clones vs. Seeds

One, Two, or Three-Part Nutrients?

January 9, 2018 by fifthseason 6 Comments

-Luis Guerra- When it comes to feeding your plants hydroponically, there seems to be an enormous amount of information everywhere you turn. There are so many claims about which lines work the best and how many bottles a line needs to grow the best plants, many of them confusing or even contradictory. In my latest post, I’ll help you take some of the guesswork out of starting to grow hydroponically. One-part I mostly recommend one-part nutrients to new hydroponic growers simply … [Read more...] about One, Two, or Three-Part Nutrients?

Fluorescent Grow Lights: Versatile, Effective, and Priced Right!

October 17, 2017 by fifthseason Leave a Comment

-Luis Guerra- Fluorescent lighting is a great choice for growing plants indoors because it has a low startup cost and can be used pretty much anywhere. Fluorescents can be used in many different applications, from keeping orchids healthy and beautiful, to germinating vegetable starts for market. Please note that not all fluorescent lighting is the same. That flickering fluorescent light at work is not the same as the T5 fixture used for horticultural lighting. T5s utilize and deliver … [Read more...] about Fluorescent Grow Lights: Versatile, Effective, and Priced Right!

AgroLED Dio-Watt Review

September 19, 2017 by fifthseason 12 Comments

-Mike Weeks- Lighting is one of the most important components of an indoor gardening set-up, and in today’s competitive and somewhat flooded market, making the right choice for your garden can be quite overwhelming. Fortunately, we know the right questions to ask to help you make an informed decision. We often recommend LED to growers that want a low profile set-up. LED’s generate less heat and draw less power so they are easy to fit into smaller spaces with very little ventilation … [Read more...] about AgroLED Dio-Watt Review

-Chris Amaya- Beneficial bacteria is the heart and soul in all living soil that lays beneath our feet, but when it comes to observing beneficials in hydroponics we learn that microbes are not only for organics. The constant interaction between bacteria and plants play a large role in factoring soil fertility and plant health. Although there are hundreds and hundreds types of microorganisms on this earth, plants especially thrive when they have a good mix of mycorrhizae, bacteria, and … [Read more...] about More About Marvelous Microbes

-Luis Guerra- Working indoors with hydroponics or bagged soil  is a great way to get the results you need without some of the hardships that arise when growing outdoors. Autopots All The Way

June 27, 2017 by fifthseason 3 Comments

Many people have the desire to learn about hydroponics, but many times they are intimidated by all of the pumps, timers, and equipment associated with the hobby. Here’s a spotlight on one of the systems we feel is a great starting point for automation without needing to have a full understanding of hydroponics. The Autopot is one of our favorites because it is so easy to maintain. Unlike other growing systems, the Autopot does not require electrical power, making it reliable and easy just … [Read more...] about Autopots All The Way

The Benefit of Light Movers

July 13, 2016 by fifthseason 3 Comments

Adding light movers to your indoor growing plan allows you to cover more canopy area without increasing the amount of light you use. Typically, a 1000 Watt HID lighting system will cover an area of up to five sq. ft. with the right reflector. Utilizing a Light Rail light mover can increase your footprint by 30% without needing to add another light – ultimately helping to cut down both on the need for both heat remediation and rising electrical costs. Running a light mover also helps to … [Read more...] about The Benefit of Light Movers

Adding Vitamins to your Regimen

May 10, 2016 by fifthseason 1 Comment

One great way of upgrading your crop insurance is the introduction of vitamins as part your feeding schedule. Now I know what you’re thinking: plants naturally produce their own vitamins on demand, why would I need to add more? This is true, however…… Most of us prefer little to NO interruptions in a grow cycle. When plants get stressed, however, they go into a hibernation mode to conserve energy and recover. This recovery time is important in order to save your harvest, but can cost you up … [Read more...] about Adding Vitamins to your Regimen
