Fall is often referred to as the “second spring” within gardening circles in our region. With cooler temperatures, less watering, fewer pests, and an array of tasty crops to choose from, fall gardening is among our favorite seasons for planting. One consideration when starting a fall garden is whether to start your own seeds or buy transplants. Starting your garden from seed is rewarding, cost-saving, and opens up your options to thousands of exciting varieties. However, some folks experience uncertainty knowing exactly what to do to ensure success.
In this information-packed workshop you’ll learn best practices for successful germination, timing, how to choose the right equipment for your space, trouble-shooting problems, and the proper way to care for your seedlings until they’re planted in the garden. There will be a discussion about bulbs, wildflowers, and vernalization, followed by you getting your hands in the soil!
Cost: $30 – We provide all materials to seed and take home your own flat of seedlings!
Putting Up the Summer Harvest: Canning & Storing • $38

Have you been wanting to learn the basics of home canning, but find yourself confused as to where to begin?
Join Fifth Season for this hands-on workshop on Canning, Brining, Smoking, Drying and other ways to preserve and store your produce for the winter. Students will come away with fresh sauerkraut and other garden treats.
We will provide an overview about: equipment, ingredients, canning chemistry, microorganisms, and troubleshooting tips.
Class cost is $38, and includes instruction, handouts, and samples.
Bulb Planting Workshop • $40

Workshop attendees learn how to plant their own successively blooming potted spring bulb garden!
The workshop, led by Fifth Season Gardening, will guide attendees through the early, middle and late season spring bulb planting.
Spring bulbs, including: grape hyacinth, tete a tete daffodils, big daffodils and tulips will bloom in succession out of a single pot over a 4 to 6 week period. Great for any patio, front porch or balcony garden! We will lead attendees through the entire bulb planting process as well as offer care and maintenance tips.
Workshop lasts 1.5 hours. All attendees leave with flower bulbs, pot and soil.
Plant Propagation & Indoor Growing Class • $35

Plant propagation is really something that most any gardener should consider and will likely enjoy if they take the plunge! Fifth Season Gardening will lead an introductory class focused on indoor propagation techniques.
We will share how to properly take root cuttings from this year’s plants to winter over for next years bloom. Take away will be a tray of rooted cuttings.
Attendees will leave with a greater knowledge and appreciation for indoor growing as well as a take away a tray of propagated cuttings of rosemary, scented geraniums, and tropical plants.
