A hands-on workshop for beginner bonsai enthusiasts led by bonsai artist Danny Coffey. This two hour class begins with an art and cultural history tour of bonsai. Participants will then learn how to repot and wire a tree as well as practice bending and shaping techniques. The class concludes with a discussion about how to care for your tree once you get home. Class fee includes professional instruction plus materials (ceramic pot, tree, and soil). Students leave with their own potted bonsai. Limited enrollment with pre-registration required.
Mushroom Log Workshop • $75

In this 90-minute workshop participants inoculate sustainably and locally sourced logs for gourmet mushrooms. Gourmet varietals are described, including identifying features, flavor profiles, nutrition, and tips for biannual and annual harvests. Class fee includes NC USDA certified professional instruction + materials: log, mushroom spawn, wax, and illustrated handout. Students leave with their own mushroom inoculated log! Option for making a second log is available for an additional $25. Limited enrollment with pre-registration required.
Plant on Paper: Botanical Illustration • $55

Learn techniques and build skills to document the beauty and personality of your favorite plants! This mixed-media course is for all levels, open to plant enthusiasts of all levels of drawing experience, but mostly focuses on drawing basics. If you’re already an experienced artist, it’s a great opportunity to challenge yourself through botanical illustration. Using plants in the store as our subject, we will focus on building technical drawing skills including measuring/sighting, line work, shading methods, and more.
This class will be led by Lisa Eckenrode. She has a background in Fine Art drawing and painting and loves blending these skills with a love for nature. All materials will be provided. Limited enrollment with pre-registration required.
Terrarium Building Workshop • $40

Class includes demonstrations on terrarium tools, and detailed instructions on how to create your own mini terrarium! Attendees will leave with their own, self-created terrarium! Class fee includes pickle jar, two terrarium plants, soil, charcoal, sand & moss. Additional items available for purchase, and attendees receive a 15% discount on same-day purchases of terrarium tools, glassware, terrarium plants, fairy figurines and misters/watering tools.
