The class will include a demonstration on terrarium tools, and detailed instructions on how to create your own mini terrarium that will be self sustainable for many months. Included is pickle jar, 2 terrarium plants, soil, charcoal, sand & moss. Additional items will be available for purchase. Attendees will receive an additional15% discount on all same day purchases of terrarium tools, glassware, terrarium plants, fairy figurines and misters/watering tools.

This 90 minute class introduces you to the world of identifying mushrooms in the autumn leaves, covering characteristics of unique, rare, useful, and delectable mushrooms! We’ll take a close look at live specimens, safe edibles, dangerous look-alikes and round out the class with a mushroom hunt. Class fee includes NC USDA certified professional instruction, illustrated identification “cheat sheet”. Limited enrollment with pre-registration required.

DIY! Apples are abundant in western North Carolina this time of year. In Preserving Apples, come learn about creative ways to store these beloved fruits for year-round use. Author and teacher Ashley English will discuss a variety of delectable ways to preserve these autumnal delights, including:

Botanical Watercolor Greeting Cards Class • $55

New class! Plant life is endlessly inspiring and presents the perfect opportunity for drawing from observation.
Come create a nature inspired greeting card using watercolors! This is an opportunity to challenge our observational skills by working towards rendering botanical specimens using watercolors. We will discuss color palettes to explore and learn basic wet and dry painting techniques. Participants will have the space and time to work with their unique creative vision while being offered techniques and guidelines to build understanding of the process. All materials will be provided. This class is open to all levels, some observational drawing or painting experience is helpful but not necessary.

Just Announced! A hands-on workshop for beginner bonsai enthusiasts led by bonsai artist, Danny Coffey.
Although bonsai has gained popularity among plant hobbyists, it is still often considered difficult and unapproachable by many. However, with a basic skills foundation and understanding of the art form and medium, it doesn’t have to be! Perfect for beginners, this workshop will increase your confidence with bonsai and provide a hands-on opportunity for learning.
This two hour class begins with an art and cultural history tour of bonsai. Participants will then learn how to repot and wire a tree as well as practice bending and shaping techniques. The class concludes with a discussion about how to care for your tree once you get home.
Price includes professional instruction + materials (ceramic pot, tree, soil). Students leave with their own potted Bonsai!

Holiday Class! Preserve the beauty of winter by crafting a holiday wreath with us! Lisa Eckenrode (visual artist and former 5th season team member) will guide us through a step-by-step process to craft a final piece that will be a warm welcome for your front door. Together we will work with the unique textures, colors, and shapes of foraged winter foliage and use elements of design to enhance the artistry of our wreaths. Wreath base, foliage, and floral wire, and some embellishments will be provided. If you have your own snips or gloves to work with, or if you have your own embellishments/bows you wish to include in your wreath, please bring those along.
