When planting a garden, one consideration is whether to start your own seeds or buy transplants. Starting your garden from seed is rewarding, cost-saving, and opens up your options to thousands of exciting varieties. However, some folks experience a sense of uncertainty knowing exactly what to do to ensure success.
In this class, you’ll learn best practices for successful germination, timing, how to choose the right equipment for your space, trouble-shooting potential problems, and the proper way to care for your seedlings.
Cost: $20 and attendees will leave with a Seed Starting Kit that contains:
- 10×20 flat tray
- 72-cell insert
- Humidome
- A bag of Black Gold Seedling Mix (Organic)
- Organic Seeds
About the instructor: Mike Weeks is a managing partner at Fifth Season Gardening and has been serving WNC farmers and gardeners for 15+ years. He is passionate about bringing his knowledge to gardeners of all levels in a language that is easy to comprehend.

Unsure where to start when it comes to improving and balancing the soil in your garden? Come learn all about the basic amendments traditionally added to soil to ensure the best chance of growing healthy, nutrient-dense vegetables and herbs. Understand what your soil needs, discover the benefits of each amendment, and learnhow to maximize bio-availability through proper application.
Cost is $20 and attendees leave with an amendment pack of Mike’s top 2 recommended amendments – Kelp Meal and Azomite – for your small to mid-sized garden.
*The methods discussed in this class are suitable for raised beds or in-ground gardens
