We’ve just been notified that North Carolina Alcohol Beverage Control will not grant a permit for Tap Out Hunger and we will need to postpone the event. The reason is the presence of homebrew at a craft beer event. There’s nothing in the law that says you can’t hold a homebrew competition and a craft beer tasting in the same place at the same time. There is nothing in the law that says you can’t hold a homebrew competition and invite the public as judges. Unfortunately, ABC interprets the law differently. We plan to challenge this decision, but there is simply not enough time to do so before our planned May 19th event date.
We are especially disappointed because this event was to benefit A Simple Gesture, a food collection program supporting the Food Banks and Pantries in Greensboro and Guilford County.
Our apologies to all who have purchased tickets, brewed beer and agreed to participate. We will be issuing refunds for tickets purchased and hope you will bear with us as we attempt to resolve the issue. We’ll be sure to announce details as we have them.
In the meantime, keep brewing and enjoying craft beer and please support those in our community that care about beer.
